Why when I install windows the proxy parameter is?

Sometimes you will see this frustrating yellow exclamation mark icon on the icon of your network connection in Windows. The operating system offers to solve it for you, but after running the automatic tool, you see this message:

Windows could not automatically detect the proxy parameters of this network.

What does it mean and how to fix it? Let’s take a look at Windows proxy settings and steps to fix them.

1. Restart your computer and router

Before you get into advanced troubleshooting, it’s always a good idea to restart your equipment first. This may clarify your problem in a few moments.

Since this error is generally linked to parameters that are poorly configured on a computer, restarting your router will probably have no effect. But it’s always worth trying every time you have network problems of all kinds.

If you restart your computer and router and the problem has not been resolved, go to the more detailed steps.

2. Check the proxy settings in Windows

Because this problem is related to your Windows proxy settings, this is a good first place to check. To access the proxy parameters in Windows 10, open Settings, select the Network & Internet and move to the tab Proxy category in the left sidebar.

Here you will see a list of options for proxy servers. If you are not using proxy (as is the case for most home users), make sure you are using a proxy server, the cursor is disabled. Let Detect parameters automatically if it’s already done.

For users who connect with a proxy, such as in a work or education environment, you may want to check with your system administrator to make sure you have the correct proxy details.

After that, try to reconnect to the network again. If the error persists, try to deactivate automatically detect the parameters in the proxy options and try again.

What is a proxy server?

We don’t want to bore you with the details while you’re trying to solve this problem, but we wanted to provide a brief explanation of what a proxy really is and why Windows can have problems with it.

Essentially, a proxy server acts as an intermediary between your computer and the Internet. Instead of connecting directly to the Internet, you connect to the server, which collects information from the Internet for you.

These are most common in businesses and schools, where system administrators use them for safety and efficiency. It is very unlikely that you will use a proxy server on your home network unless you have specifically configured one. This is why you must erase all the proxy parameters that may exist when you encounter this problem.

3. Run the network card problem solving utility

When you right-click the network connection icon and choose to troubleshoot, it performs Internet Connections problem solving, causing the error “Windows could not detect proxy parameters”. But there is another network problem solving utility that you can run that could help you more.

Open Settings again and visit Update and security> Breakdown. Find a network adapter in the list and browse the problem-solving utility for it. As experienced Windows users know, this tool does not always solve your problem, but it is worth a try.

4. Automatic obtaining of the IP address and the DNS

In fact, there are no many troubleshooting steps specific to proxy servers. We will share more advice below, but keep in mind that troubleshooting looks like the correction of the Windows “No Internet Access” error from that moment.

Although not technically related to your proxy settings, an IP address or poorly configured DNS settings may also cause this error. To check them, access Parameters> Network and Internet> State. Click it Edit adapter options in the list to see all of your network connections, then double-click the one you are using.

Here, click on the Internet Protocol 4 button and double-click Properties in the list. Make sure you have both get an IP address automatically and automatically get the address of the DNS server chosen. Poorly configured parameters here will prevent you from connecting.

5. Update or restore your network driver

An obsolete network pilot can cause connection problems. Likewise, you may have recently installed a botched update for your network driver. In both cases, replacing it could solve the problem.

Right-click the Start button and choose Device Manager to open this utility. Expand the Network Adaptors and double-click on the connection you are using.

On the tab driver, you can choose Roll Back Driver to uninstall the last update and return to the previous one. Use it if you started to encounter this problem after the update.

6. Reset the network configuration via the control prompt

Windows offers many network troubleshooting tools via the command prompt. A few quick orders can solve your problem in a few moments. If you are still having problems at this point, right-click the Start button and open a command prompt (or PowerShell) as an administrator.

Then execute the following commands, one at a time. They will reset various network functions of your computer :

neth winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
ipconfig / relay
ipconfig / returnew
ipconfig / flushdns

7. Examine the firewall, VPN and antivirus software

You must then make sure that no firewall, VPN or security suite interferes with your network connection. Maybe the software you chose had an update that changed certain settings that you were not aware of, or you have just installed a new application.

Try to deactivate your firewall, VPN and antivirus software one by one, then see if the error disappears. If so, the problem lies in one of these applications. You will need to configure them to avoid interfering with regular network activity.

8. Search for malware

Some malware is known to continually disrupt the parameters of your proxy to prevent you from connecting. If you meet the message “Windows could not detect the proxy parameters of this network” with each restart, you can be a victim.

You must therefore perform an analysis with a trusted anti-malware application, such as Malwarebytes. This will detect and get rid of all viruses or other malware running on your system. If the analysis detects infections, do the recommended action and check if your connection is functioning normally again.

9. Use a food point

The Windows system restoration function allows you to return to a previous point when your computer was operating normally. If your problems started recently, you should try this to see if you can go back in time.

Search Configuration Panel in the Start menu to open it. If Category is selected at the top right, switch to Small or Large Icons and choose the Input System.

Then click System Protection on the left sidebar. In the resulting dialog box, click System Restoration to open a new window. Windows will guide you in choosing a restoration point and confirming the operation. Of course, if your computer has not created a restoration point, you cannot use this functionality.

Note that the use of a catering point will eliminate all the programs and pilots that you have installed since the creation of this restoration point. You can click Search the programs concerned on a catering point to see what effect it will have. Restoring the system will not affect any of your personal information.

10. Reset your network settings

After trying everything above, you must use a complete reset of your network options. You have already spent a lot of time on this task, and resetting should eliminate any persistent problems blocking your connection.

Fortunately, Windows 10 makes it easier to reset your entire configuration. Open Settings> Network and Internet. On the tab status, find Reset of the network below and click on it.

Be aware that this will remove all network information from your computer. You will therefore have to reconnect to the registered networks. If it suits you, click Reset Now. Your computer will reset and then restart.
